I agree with you that the Webb will cause many changes to our picture, literally, of the universe. I also agree that light is a wave, and is not made of individual discrete photons as they cross the distances . They become discrete when they are absorbed. You also might be interested in my paper "What is it that is quantized in quantum mechanics?" I am also trying to find the cracks in the theory, as I believe you are.
